A Hotel Is A Place

I remember well the feeling of entering the lobby of a fine Hotel for the very first time - an intriguing feeling of both promise and escape.

A fine residential Hotel can be a place of dreams, a place of exciting new relationships that promise much, and sometimes deliver. Around every corner can be something new.

The working day ends but a Hotel begins. Time for laughter, the company of friends, and strangers too. Time for romance, a short time to be free.

An oasis to pause, refresh, recharge. A place to spend some time with a familiar face.

A Hotel can be all these things.

I recall my first experience with a real Oasis in the deserts of Arabia. The calm was overwhelming. I thought this is what my own Hotel will be - a place to revitalise yourself away from the life that brought you here.

Clipped heels on marble floors. Efficiency, purpose, everyone going somewhere. The afternoon dusk brings glances of chance. Softening lights, cocktails, romance.
Careful, it can become a complete lifestyle.

Reef House Hotel,
Port Douglas, Far North Queesland, Australia
The first night was sleepless. Subsequent nights the same. Warm ocean breezes, continuous waves on the beach. Tropical nights. I've never been to Casablanca. This will surely do til then.

Four Seasons Hotel,
Sydney, Australia
A Hotel of this quality with this location truly an Australian showcase. The Rocks precinct on Sydney Harbour - in my top ten. A super example preserving the past. Bravo to those responsible. This Hotel has always oozed class & style. This is one of my two favourite Hotels in Sydney. Four Seasons and Taj Blue. But, never forget where you came from. The Regent of Sydney. Love That Lobby.

Sheraton Mirage Resort,
Port Douglas, Far North Queenslad, Australia
Creation and bravery to build this but what a result. A legacy to Scase's pioneering spirit, albeit it at the expense of others. Like so many things in life, he almost pulled it off. Few have the courage to go over the line, but this is well beyond it.

Fresh water pearls, cold beer & live music at the Courthouse. This just could be the real Australia. Adventures in paradise.

Hayman Island Resort
Whitsunday Passage, Far North Queensland, Australia
Am I dreaming? Cruising the Whitsunday Passage Champagne in hand. Are you kidding? Sir Peter Ables had a vision like Scase. Brave corporate Australians. High risk in a lucky country. A silence surely washed over the Endeavour. I'd be certain Captain Cook was impressed. He hadn't seen his family for such a long time but it must have been so tempting to stay. This is the way I want to arrive - check me in please.

The Regent Of Fiji
I remember we arrived in the dark of night and the ride in the darkness to this place was a feeling that has endeared me forever. Where are we - then flickering flames, welcoming gardens. I fell completely in love - palms, breezes & the magic of the Pacific. How fortunate I feel to be born to a generation that can enjoy this. Vanuatu, Saipan, Solomon Islands, Midway, the Mairana Islands. I wish the fallen could have seen it like this in their morning light. A cyclone passed, I walked on the beach.
